ABOUT ORDA

Born of Olympic glory, the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) was created by the State of New York in 1981 to achieve something both unique and powerful. To maintain and manage the facilities used during the 1980 Olympic Winter Games, known as the Lake Placid Legacy sites (Olympic Center and James C. Sheffield Speed Skating Oval, Olympic Jumping Complex, Mt Van Hoevenberg, and Whiteface Mountain) and to drive economic development was the original mandate. By all measures that work is a brilliant and continuing success.

The Olympic Authority also operates Belleayre Mountain and Gore Mountain and owns the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Lake Placid, one of only two such facilities in the nation.

Beyond managing venues, the Olympic Authority hosts numerous national and international competitions, facilitates unique training opportunities for athletes at all levels, provides four-season recreation for a diverse range of visitors, and hosts a broad spectrum of other events of cultural significance. The organization achieves all this while advancing both the Olympic Movement and the dreams of aspiring athletes.
