What: The mayors of Lake Placid and PyeongChang, Korea will announce a new partnership between the two former Olympic municipalities, one with the joint goal of increasing participation in winter sports.
Both communities are members of the World Union of Olympic Cities and share common interests in educating and inspiring athleticism and recreation, maintaining venues, and fostering involvement in winter sports at all levels.
Who: Officials from the Village of Lake Placid and the City of PyeongChang, including the Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority), members of the New York State Assembly and local Olympians will come together to celebrate this new alliance of friends and partners in promoting winter sports.
Art Devlin, the mayor of Lake Placid was appointed in 2021 to the executive board of the World Union of Olympic Cities has traveled extensively to former Olympic host cities and is well-versed in the opportunities made possible by world-class winter sport venues. Mr. Shim Jae-Guk, the mayor of PyeongChang, will join Devlin in announcing the partnership and outlining the shared commitment held by these two former Olympic host municipalities to work together to continue welcoming future generations into these sports and elevating them on the global stage.
New York State Assembly members Billy Jones (District 115) and Bobby Carroll (District 44) will also be attending and providing a proclamation.
When: The announcement will be made Friday, March 7 at 1 p.m., the day after the official start of the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Championships taking place over two weeks on the combined track at Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid.
Where: Mt Van Hoevenberg’s Mountain Pass Lodge at 31 Van Hoevenberg Way, Lake Placid.
