Museum Hosts Cross-Border Craft Activity Celebrating Canada Day and Independence Day
Olympic Center to be Illuminated Red & White July 1 and Red, White & Blue July 4
To mark Canada Day on July 1, the Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) will join I LOVE NY in a heartfelt salute to our northern neighbors. As part of this celebration:
-
- The Olympic Center will be illuminated in red and white, the colors of the Canadian flag.
- The Olympic Authority will share the message: “On Canada Day, New York State Celebrates Our Canadian Neighbors.” This tribute will be echoed onsite at the venues, on websites, and social media channels, showing unity and appreciation for our cross-border friendships and shared Olympic heritage.
- The Lake Placid Olympic Museum will host a community craft activity, “Maple & Stars Mosaic – Olympic Spirit Without Borders,” taking place July 1–4, 2025, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. daily at Miracle Plaza. Guests will be creating a symbol of peace, unity, and international camaraderie — one maple leaf and star at a time.
More About “Maple & Stars Mosaic – Olympic Spirit Without Borders” Activity
Timed to coincide with Canada Day (July 1) and U.S. Independence Day (July 4), this unique activity invites guests of all ages to contribute to a collaborative mural that honors the Olympic values of friendship, excellence, and respect, while celebrating the close ties between the two nations.
Participants will write their favorite Olympic memory or a value they cherish on colorful paper cut-outs shaped like maple leaves and stars. These symbols will then be arranged into a giant mosaic in the form of an Olympic torch, with the flame composed of the vibrant leaves and stars – a powerful image of unity through sport.
The completed mural will remain on display in Miracle Plaza throughout the Fourth of July weekend.
