Skyrides, Mountain Biking, Hiking, and Disc Golf Highlight the Schedule
The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) announces opening dates and times for a slate of popular summer activities at Gore Mountain. The Olympic Authority’s venues are now year-round destinations with a range of attractions and activities. Following a successful winter season, the staff at Gore Mountain is transitioning to summer operations and preparing to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Scenic Skyrides – Northwoods Gondola
The Northwoods Gondola is a highly accessible and memorable way to enjoy summer in the mountains, whether for as little as a half-hour or an entire day. The eight-passenger cabins easily accommodate mountain bikes, strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. Enjoy views of the High Peaks and southern Adirondacks, bring a picnic lunch, and walk along the summit. Enhance the experience even further by joining the Gore Pick Up Crew or playing Scavenger Hunt Bingo along the way. When ready, board the gondola for the return trip or hike back down.
Open: June 29 through Sept. 3, Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sept. 9 through Oct. 8, Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
[NOTE: The Northwoods Gondola may be substituted with the Adirondack Express open-air chairlift on days when the summer heat index makes it unsafe to ride in enclosed gondola cabins.]
Downhill Mountain Biking
Gear up for the adrenaline rush of extreme downhill mountain biking. Lift-serviced terrain descends 1,700 vertical feet on forested singletrack and wide-open ski trails. Several trails, including Sidewinder and The Hollow, are reshaped this year for a smoother ride. Riders can also enjoy a more laidback ride on the cross-country trail loops in the Base Area.
Open: June 29 through Sept. 3, Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sept. 9 through Oct. 8, Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hiking
With the largest network of ski trails in the State of New York, Gore Mountain offers a multitude of hiking options to explore for all interests and abilities, from challenging climbs to gentle strolls. Interpretive signs on some trails help keep hikers on track and help them discover flora and fauna along the way. Park and hike from the Base Lodge or take the gondola to start from the summit. Uphill hiking at Gore is free, but visitors are asked to sign in and out of a hiking registry at Guest Services or the ticket windows.
Open: June 29 through Sept. 3, Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sept. 9 through Oct. 8, Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Disc Golf
A fun outdoor activity tossing frisbee-like discs from basket to basket, scored similarly to golf and accessible for all ages and a wide range of athletic abilities. This family-friendly nine-hole course meanders through the Airbender Woods at different elevations. Players are supplied with three discs, each designed to throw from different distances.
Open: June 29 through Sept. 3, Thursday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sept. 9 through Oct. 8, Saturday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Harvest Fest – Oct. 7-8
In a celebration of summer’s end and looking forward to an exciting winter ahead, Harvest Fest includes scenic Skyrides on the Northwoods Gondola, a craft show, live music and recreational activities. With Gore’s four peaks illuminated with fall foliage, this is the perfect opportunity to savor the crisp Adirondack air before the snowmakers get to work.
