Mt Van Hoevenberg offers 55km of cross country ski trails as well as many miles of challenging single track through pristine forests. The inaugural Lake Placid Trail Challenge was held in the fall. This 2024 edition will take place in August when trail running in the Adirondacks is at its absolute best.

Spartan Trail, in yet another stride to expand its presence within the trail running community, is once again partnering with the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) and its historic and modernized Mt Van Hoevenberg facility to host the Lake Placid Trail Challenge.

Nestled in the breathtaking Adirondack Mountains of New York, this event will showcase the natural splendor and outstanding infrastructure of Mt Van Hoevenberg, creating an idyllic setting for an emerging trail race. Runners from across the nation will have the opportunity to choose from three distinct distances offered by the Lake Placid Trail Challenge: 10k, Half Marathon, and 50k. These options cater to a diverse range of participants, from novices in the sport to seasoned ultra-marathon enthusiasts. The race venue is conveniently situated a mere 10 minutes outside of downtown Lake Placid, one of the most picturesque mountain villages in the state of New York.

All three distances will start and finish at the Nordic Stadium, just outside Mt Van Hoevenberg’s Mountain Pass Lodge. The course will take them through the lush greenery of the Adirondack forests, traversing single track, double track, flat, steep, and flowy trails. The venue that hosted the 1980 Winter Olympics has everything for an incredible outdoor experience, from the incredible gorgeous views to the history of American sport that has been forged on these trails. Mt Van Hoevenberg also hosted Spartan’s Lake Placid Trail Challenge in 2022.

Registration is now open through Spartan Trail’s website and special early bird pricing is available for a limited time. More information and venue details can be found at mtvanhoevenberg.com.
