Snowmaking Investment Supports Early Season Training and Competition for Nordic Athletes

Grand Prix is One of Two Elite Events At Mt Van Hoevenberg This Weekend – World Cup Bobsled and Skeleton Dec. 16-18

The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announces the New England Nordic Ski Association’s (NENSA) Grand Prix Eastern Cup Opener will be relocated from a Vermont facility to Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, New York.

Why: The event is being moved to Mt Van Hoevenberg, where a high-efficiency snowmaking system and internationally homologated competition trails allow ORDA to maintain optimal race conditions and a quality experience for every level of skier.

What: Nordic skiers across the east coast region will travel to Lake Placid for the first NENSA Eastern Cup of the 2022-2023 season. All races are scored to the NENSA Junior Ranking List, Club Cup, and serve as qualifications for Junior Nationals.

When: Saturday and Sunday, December 17-18. Spectators for this event are welcome at Mt Van Hoevenberg free of charge. Tickets for recreational skiing are available at the venue or online at mtvanhoevenberg.com. Tickets for viewing the IBSF World Cup Bobsled and Skeleton competition at locations up and down the track are also available at the Mountain Pass Lodge or online.

Where: As one of Lake Placid’s Olympic Legacy Sites, Mt Van Hoevenberg is a world-class facility designed for training, competition, and recreation. Host to hundreds of national and international competitions, Mt Van Hoevenberg’s facilities also feature a new 55,000 square-foot Mountain Pass Lodge with excellent spectator and hospitality areas, service facilities for ski teams (waxing cabins, warm-up, and meeting rooms), competition management and officiating areas, video and timing systems, medical care, and other amenities that place it among the world’s leading venues in Nordic sports.

In recent years, ORDA has invested heavily in revitalizing all its venues, including Mt Van Hoevenberg. The massive series of projects have once again transformed Lake Placid’s Olympic venues and among the world’s pre-eminent locations for training, competition, and recreation.

Who: Eastern Cups are open to all U.S. Ski & Snowboard and NENSA members. Athletes under 20 years of age are scored to the Junior Ranking List (JRL), which is the basis for qualification for the New England Junior National Team.

Bonus Event On Site: Mt Van Hoevenberg is also among the world’s leading venues for sliding sports, and on the same weekend, the venue will be hosting the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation’s (IBSF) World Cup event. The dual events will offer a special opportunity for spectators to view multiple sports at the same facility, including the world’s best bobsled and skeleton athletes, as the IBSF World Cup races will be conveniently live-streamed for free viewing inside visitor areas at the Mountain Pass Lodge.
