This Logo Has Tales to Tell

News & Stories, Aaron Hobson, Board of Directors, design, Lake Placid, logo, marketing, museum experience, Olympic Center, Olympic Museum

A great logo offers a look inside an organization, and in the case of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum, it’s even more. It’s a major step in the transformation now happening in the museum’s purpose and exhibit spaces and in its visibility to the public. In a sense, this logo is a visual ode to Lake Placid’s Olympic legacy.

The new Lake Placid Olympic Museum logo in color with a pillar in the middle, colors representing mountains at its base, The entire planning process for the new museum as well as the colors, symbolism, and design of its new logo are the culmination of a careful collaboration among its stakeholders. The Museum’s Board of Directors, staff, and ORDA Art Director, Aaron Hobson worked together to realize a simple yet artful and powerful visual depiction of the museum as it forges a bold new future. The collaboration inspired plans for a new immersive experience, making the future opening of the museum is a highly anticipated event. This new visual identity is a window into that future.

“The logo symbolizes the iconic cauldron of Lake Placid’s 1980 Olympic Winter Games,” says Hobson. “Three pillars are reminiscent of Greek columns where the ancient games began. Here they also signify the third Winter Games held in Lake Placid in 1932, the first Olympics ever in the U.S. The colors we chose for the base are the official Olympic colors, and they’re positioned to represent the Adirondack Mountains, which is home to the communities, athletes, and visitors who, to this day, elevate our Olympic legacy and hold high the spirit of the Olympic movement.”

Marketing Support

The logo is one of many marketing elements that ORDA is providing in support of the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. From strategy, copywriting, video production, website design and content, media communications, graphic design, and more, ORDA marketing and communications staff are helping create an eagerly anticipated launch of the new Lake Placid Olympic Museum. As part of their contract, ORDA works to ensure the museum receives publicity and other marketing services equivalent to that of other Olympic facilities and venues operated by ORDA. Together in partnership, we are continuing to shine a bright light on our Olympic legacy!
