The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) announces a one-year partnership with Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort as the Title Sponsor of the Adirondack Winter Invitational collegiate men’s hockey tournament to be held in Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center. This collaboration highlights Golden Arrow’s commitment to supporting hockey and other events in Lake Placid, celebrating the sport’s deep connection to the region’s Olympic legacy.
Returning for its second year, the Adirondack Winter Invitational will feature four games over Thanksgiving weekend on Friday, November 29 and Saturday, November 30. The tournament brings together four Division I college hockey programs, with University of Massachusetts Lowell and Providence College from the Hockey East conference taking on ECAC Hockey schools St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University. Each team will play twice over two days, competing for the tournament trophy in a points-based format.
“We are so excited that the Adirondack Winter Invitational is back for a second year and are proud to be a part of this growing hockey tradition,” said Joell Stetson, Golden Arrow’s Director of Marketing. “We look forward to welcoming hockey fans, players, coaches, and their families to Lake Placid and share their passion and love for the game. Offering not only top-tier hockey but also a unique Lake Placid experience perfectly aligns with our commitment to celebrating community and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests.”
The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort, a family-owned establishment, has been a cornerstone of the Lake Placid community for decades. Located along the shores of Mirror Lake and just steps from the Olympic Center, the resort offers guests a unique experience, blending warm hospitality with convenient access to the village’s vibrant attractions.
Situated in the early portion of the collegiate hockey season, the Adirondack Winter Invitational features non-conference matchups and provides teams an opportunity to face new opponents on neutral ice as they prepare for the second half of their schedules. The inaugural event in 2023 drew thousands of spectators, with Arizona State clinching the title after a shootout victory against Cornell in the championship game, while Clarkson defeated UMass Amherst in overtime in the consolation matchup.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Golden Arrow as a key partner for this highly competitive tournament, which takes place during one of the most festive times of the year in Lake Placid,” said Tait Wardlaw, the Olympic Authority’s Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Sponsorships. “Lake Placid will be firing on all cylinders that weekend. Along with the Adirondack Invitational at the Olympic Center, locals and visitors can enjoy events throughout the village and at the Legacy Sites, plus the opportunity to make the season’s first turns skiing and snowboarding at Whiteface Mountain.”
The Olympic Center holds a prominent place in sports history as the site of the legendary Miracle on Ice game that propelled the U.S. hockey team to an unexpected gold medal during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. The Adirondack Invitational will be played in the same arena, allowing players and fans a taste of the past while creating new memories and experiences.
