News & Stories

First women’s FIS ski jumping competition to take place in the U.S. since 2009

The recent modernization of the ski jumps and the monumental upgrades and improvements at Mt Van Hoevenberg (shown here) are making them more attractive than ever for athletes and spectators as well as organizers of international competitions.

What: The New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) in partnership with USA Nordic will bring notable international athletes to the region later this month when it hosts the FIS Continental Cup in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined. The Continental Cup was last in Lake Placid in December 2015.

The two days of competition will include Men’s Nordic Combined events plus a special Women’s Ski Jumping competition, the first ever women’s Continental Cup for Ski Jumping in Lake Placid.

When: Full days of competition are scheduled for Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26.

Where: The competition’s jumping events will be held at the newly modernized Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid. Nordic Combined events will be held at the expanded and upgraded Mt Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid and Olympic Jumping Complex.

Who: Beijing Olympians attending include Women’s Ski Jumper Anna Hoffman and Men’s Nordic Combined athletes Ben Loomis, Jared Shumate, and Jasper Good. Additional Olympians are expected. Hometown athletes competing will be Ski Jumper Nina Lussi of Lake Placid and Nordic athlete Tate Franz of Lake Placid. Five-time Olympian, Lake Placid native, and USA Nordic Executive Director Bill Demong will also be in attendance.

Cost: Nordic combined events at Mt. Van Hoevenberg will be free for spectators. The Ski Jumping events at the Olympic Jumping Complex will require an event ticket purchase. Ticket details can be found by clicking here.

Additional Details: USA Nordic and ORDA are proud to co-host this prestigious event, and the athletes are excited to be competing at these venues. The Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex has long been an important training center for athletes at all levels. Both the recent modernization of the ski jumps and the monumental upgrades and improvements at Mt Van Hoevenberg are making them more attractive than ever for athletes and spectators as well as organizers of international competitions.

“USA Nordic is thankful for the State of New York and the Olympic Regional Development Authority, who have been amazing stewards of the Olympic Legacy,” says Demong. “They have made incredible investments in the venues of Mt. Van Hoevenberg and the Olympic Ski Jumping Complex that will benefit USA Nordic and our athletes for many years to come.”
