Nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks, Gore Mountain stands as both a monument to the region’s natural beauty and a leader in the outdoor excitement it has to offer.
Those who know it understand it is far more than a mountain. It’s an invitation to an unforgettable adventures! Because whether you’re a seasoned skier or snowboarder or a beginner ready to give it a try for the first time, Gore Mountain has something for everyone, making it the ideal destination for classic family fun this winter.
Trails Galore for Everyone
Gore Mountain is expansive – the most expansive in New York State, with four peaks, five lodges, and the most trails (108, in fact, not including terrain parks). Plus, it’s a mountain with over 2,500 vertical feet of varied terrain with lifts and trails for every skill level.
Gore’s 28 glades include the longest in the East, the Cirque on Burnt Ridge Mountain. Moreover, the mountain is also home to the famous Rumor, one of Gore’s most iconic and arguably the steepest trails in the East. And the wide range of trail ability levels allows families and groups of all kinds to ski together as there is always an intermediate or more accessible level trail off every lift.
The extensive network of trails, glades, and terrain parks wind through a pristine Adirondack landscape. Black diamonds and mogul runs challenge expert skiers and riders to crank up the intensity. At the same time, Gore also makes learning fun with two easy conveyor loading quads and two conveyor surface lifts. Gore has ski & snowboard equipment rentals, group and one-on-one lessons for every level, and even complete beginner packages. It all works together to ensure even the most inexperienced family members feel at ease.
The Lodges
The base lodge is a friendly, welcoming place with warm and inviting spaces, ample seating, a cozy Adirondack décor, and plenty of delicious dining options. The perfect place for a relaxing break between runs. Grab a bite at the Tannery Restaurant or the food Court for daily specials. Outside there’s a sundeck with the Open Pit Grille and waffle cabin for on-the-go treats. And, of course, there is hot chocolate to keep the little ones smiling all day!
Elsewhere on the mountain, there are four other lodges to discover, too. The Northwoods Lodge has a Mountain Adventure Center, Snow Sports Desk, Rental and Repair Shop and more. Or stop for a break mid-mountain and find a food court and fireplace at the Saddle Lodge. It’s right in the middle of the action halfway up the mountain and the perfect place for a relaxing break in front of the fireplace between runs. Or catch a lift to the Gore summit, where you’ll find the Straight Brook Lodge, offering a unique perspective from the renovated unloading building of the historic old red gondola.
And don’t forget the Ski Bowl Lodge where a whole new set of adventures awaits.
Ski Bowl Adventures
The first skiers in the Adirondacks arrived in 1934 via train at the North Creek Ski Bowl, and the original base camp has been a cherished destination ever since. The Ski Bowl’s Joe Minder Lodge and Hudson Chair connect to the rest of the mountain while providing a distinct range of adventures. Alpine skiing and snowboarding lead the way, but there are also cross-country skiing rentals and trails, snowshoeing, twilight skiing on the Village Chair, and even a new uphill program. A little time here, and you’ll feel like a local.
Beyond the Mountain
The magic of Gore Mountain doesn’t stop at the slopes. When the snow starts to fall, the mountain and entire surrounding area transform into a winter wonderland. When your legs get tired, you might try tubing down snowy hills. Or delve into some of the adorable local shops where you’ll find unique treasures to remember your trip forever. Depart from the beaten path to visit the quaint, authentic Adirondack towns all around the Gore region.
