Snow on Demand exhibit recognized for exploring the science, technology and future of winter sport
The Lake Placid Olympic Museum will receive a top honor from the International Sports Heritage Association (ISHA) for its new “Snow on Demand” exhibit. The Museum will be presented with the ISHY Award in the New Exhibit category on September 24 at the ISHA Annual Conference in Pittsburgh.
The recognition is the third consecutive year the Lake Placid Olympic Museum has earned an ISHY Award and its first win in the New Exhibit category.
“Snow on Demand” explores how a changing climate is affecting winter and the science, technology and innovation helping sustain winter sport. Through interactive experiences, the exhibit examines the evolution of snowmaking and the increasingly important role technology plays in supporting reliable winter recreation, athlete training and competition. It also invites visitors to consider what these changes mean for Lake Placid, its Olympic legacy, and the future of winter sports around the world.
“This award is especially meaningful because it recognizes not just an exhibit but also the people behind it and our collective commitment to preserving Lake Placid’s winter culture,” says Olympic Museum Director Courtney Bastain. “The exhibit explores the science and impacts of a changing climate while creating a space for conversations about what the future of winter sport may be. Earning our third consecutive ISHY Award and our first in the New Exhibit category, is a wonderful acknowledgment of that work.”
The Olympic Museum’s previous two ISHY Awards recognized its educational programming. In 2024, the Museum was honored for its Olympic Host City Mock Election program, designed to engage students in the International Olympic Committee’s process for selecting future Olympic hosts. In 2025, it received an ISHY Award for “Mythical Mascots: The Legendary Tales Behind the Olympic Icons,” a traveling educational program that brings Olympic Winter Games history to students through a mini museum trunk filled with artifacts, activities and lesson plans.
ISHA is the world’s premier membership organization for sports museums, halls of fame, and organizations dedicated to preserving sports heritage. Its annual ISHY Awards recognize outstanding achievements by member organizations across a range of categories. The 2026 awards will be presented at the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum in Pittsburgh.

“Snow on Demand” is now on permanent display at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum. The Museum, located inside the Olympic Center at 2634 Main Street in Lake Placid, is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
