10 New Track Records Set at FISU World University Speedskating Championships
The New York Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) announces the athletes that set 10 new track records over four days of competition March 2 through 5, 2022, at the FISU World University Speedskating Championships held at the James C. Sheffield Olympic Speed Skating Oval.
At the close of the event March 5, ORDA President and CEO Mike Pratt presented each record setting athlete with a special commemorative plaque. The 10 new records include:
- Women’s 1000 meters in 1:22.93 set March 3, 2022, by Yuka Takahashi – Japan. Previous record:1.24.01 by Petra Acker, USA, on January, 32, 2016.
- Women’s 1500 meters in 2:09.22 set March 3, 2022, by Lea-Sophie Sholz – Germany. Previous record: 2.10.23 by Elena Lapuga-Konotopova, Russia, on February 5, 1989.
- Men’s 1000 meters in 1:14.78 set March 2, 2022, by Conor McDermott-Mostowy – Team USA. Previous record: 1.1.18 by Eric Heiden, USA, on February 19, 1980.
- Men’s 1500 meters in 1:54.88 set March 3, 2022, by Kota Mitsui – Japan. Previous record: 1.55.44 by Eric Heiden, USA, set February 21, 1980.
- Men’s 500 meters in 36.74 set March 4, 2022, by William Gebauer – Team USA. Previous record: 37:16 by Austin Kleba, USA, on January 18, 2019.
- Men’s Team Pursuit in 4:13.56 set March 4, 2022, by Team Poland. This is a new event and a new track record.
- Women’s Team Pursuit in 3:25.36 set March 4, 2022, by Team Poland. This is a new event and a new track record.
- Mixed Team Relay in 3:10.07 set March 5, 2022, by Lea-Sophie Scholz and Michael Roth – Poland. This is a new event and a new track record.
- Women’s Mass Start in 10:19.23 set March 5, 2022, by Yuka Takahashi – Japan. This is a new event and a new track record.
- Men’s Mass Start in 9:23.55 set March 5, 2022, by Yuto Tanigaki – Japan. This is a new event and a new track record.
