WHAT: Mt Van Hoevenberg will unveil a 10’x15’ flag mural created from 330 drawings by students and conjoined by Naj Wikoff who designed the project and carefully curated the artwork for Olympic Region students. Sliding sport athletes, students and their families will come together to start the season by viewing the mural for the first time.

WHEN: Friday, December 13 at 9:45 a.m. (ceremony to begin promptly)

WHERE: Awards Plaza, Mt Van Hoevenberg.

WHO: Distinguished attendees will include Olympic Regional Development Authority executive team members and Joe Martens, Olympic Authority Chairman of the Board. Bobsled, luge and skeleton athletes and their coaches will be in attendance, as well as approximately 300 students and staff from North Country schools.

WHY: The flag project was designed to not only excite and motivate athletes but also to inspire local youth and their communities, highlighting the contributions of student artwork and the Olympic Authority’s gratitude for their participation in the project.

Over 90 percent of the drawings that were submitted by young artists were incorporated into the mural, and the Olympic Authority would like to celebrate their talents while uplifting athletes. Artwork was produced by students from Camp Placid, CYC of Lake Placid/Wilmington, Keene Central School, Lake Placid Central School (Elementary and Middle/High School), North Country School, Northwood School, Saint Agnes School and the Shipman Youth Center. The materials and work to create the final product that will be permanently mounted at Mt Van Hoevenberg’s upper finish of the combined bobsled, skeleton and luge sliding track was provided by The UPS Store Lake Placid.
