The Olympic Day Celebration is a VIP and press opportunity to watch Olympic Athletes train at ORDA’s new facilities, where you will hear from sport officials and athletes who will answer questions and present a firsthand discussion of the benefits of the new training facilities in Lake Placid serving their sport.
LOCATION 1 – LAKE PLACID OLYMPIC & PARALYMPIC TRAINING CENTER (ADIRONDACK ROOM)
10:00 – 10:30 am (For USOPC Members and Media ONLY)
Hosted by Paul Wylie, ORDA Director of Sport and welcome from Mike Pratt, ORDA President/CEO and Julie Marra, Director of the Lake Placid OPTC. Please note this session is restricted to USOPC members and media only in following the health and safety requirements of the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center.
LOCATION 2 – LUGE START HOUSE
10:40 – 11:30 am
Featuring Jim Leahy, President/CEO USA Luge, and Olympians in Luge including, Gordy Sheer; Mark Grimmette; Jayson Terdiman; Summer Britcher; Emily Sweeney; and Jonny Gustafson. Current Olympic hopefuls will be training at their brand new start house facility.
LOCATION 3 – MT. VAN HOEVENBERG
11:45 am – 12:45 pm – Lunch in the Awards Plaza
Welcome by Rebecca Dayton, Mt. Van Hoevenberg General Manager, to discuss the new facility and its multi-use occupancy, event hosting capabilities, recreational opportunities, and the unique ability to market our sports to the public year-round.
1:00 – 2:00 pm – Biathlon
Featuring Max Cobb, President/CEO USA Biathlon and Olympians Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke. Current Olympic hopefuls will present a shooting demonstration and will be training along the roller loop.
2:00 – 3:00 pm – Wheeled Luge Demonstration / Sliding Track Start One
Featuring Aron McGuire, CEO of USA Bobsled and Skeleton. View a demonstration of our new wheeled bobsled attraction driven by Olympic athlete Justin Olsen.
3:00 – 3:45 pm – Bobsled and Skeleton at the Icehouse (Indoor Push Track)
Featuring Aron McGuire, CEO USA Bobsled Skeleton. Current Olympic hopefuls will be training.
3:45 – 5:30 pm – Closing Reception (Mountain Pass Lodge, 3rd Floor)
Closing Remarks – Mike Pratt, Paul Wylie and Rebecca Dayton. Other special guest remarks by Bill Demong, Executive Director USA Nordic; Kevin Penn, USOPTC, Chief of Business Operations; Ashley Walden, Adirondack Sports Council Executive Director; Chris Sullivan, Vice President of Bids and Protocol, USOPTC; and Ivo Ferriani, Chair of Winter Sports, International Olympic Committee and President of International Bobsled & Skeleton Federation.
